This is one of the wooden monument churches of Western Ukraine.
In 1870, a description of the previous Assumption Church was compiled, which noted: “The Church in. Vysotsk wooden, cross-shaped, with one dome and porch, built to the east with an altar. Stands on oak stilts, the outside is lined with wooden boards. The foundation does not need repairs, but the walls are not strong. The pine shingle roof is quite durable. The upper part of the dome is covered with tin. The church itself, up to the cross above the dome, is 10 fathoms and 2 arshins (more than 23 meters). The bell tower is wooden, on oak piles, built 30 years ago in two tiers. Covered with shingles. There are five bells.
The church was built by the Solomaretsky princes at the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century."
According to the legend of old-timers, in 1870 the church in Vysotsk was destroyed by fire, and the current church was built at the expense of parishioners in 1877. Construction was carried out by an artel of Jewish craftsmen, indicated in historical records.
The Holy Dormition Orthodox Church in Vysotsk is the third in its thousand-year history. However, on February 12, 2007, for the first time, she suffered abuse from thieves and marauders.. Three priceless icons, a communion cup made of precious metal, and a silver altar cross were stolen.
The previous church was also destroyed by fire in 1870. The cause of the current fire is being determined.

Let us remind you that in 2020 in the Donetsk region, in the city of Liman, Donetsk region, the wooden St. Peter and Paul Cathedral completely burned down. Firefighters managed to save the Vladimir Church, located on the same territory..
“They managed to remove the altar, liturgical vessels, and part of the icons from the church - passersby who saw the fire helped the clergy and parishioners with this. The lock on the front door jammed, so entry into the burning temple was only possible through a sexton. It was not possible to save all the shrines: when the building began to collapse, firefighters took people to a safe distance, and they could only watch. But it’s hard to say what condition these churches are in now, during Russian aggression - in the Donetsk region the occupiers destroyed dozens of churches.
