At its meeting on January 15, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the bill on the mental health care system in Ukraine No. 12030, which will introduce European standards in this area in Ukraine. As people's deputy Irina Gerashchenko reported, the bill was supported by 233 deputies.
The bill provides:.
obligation of service providers to persons with psychological problems to maintain confidentiality;
implementation of a system for managing and coordinating activities in the field of mental health between the Central Executive Committees;
creation of the National Mental Health Commission. It will be formed from representatives of ministries and organizations, and its financing will be provided by international partners;
introduction of certification for mental health professionals;
increasing attention to the needs of people with mental health problems and combating discrimination.
The head of the Committee on National Health, Medical Care and Medical Insurance, Mikhail Radutsky, noted that one of the main goals of the law is to overcome post-Soviet stereotypes about mental health, to promote a culture where taking care of mental health and visiting a doctor will become the norm.
