The damaged Russian oil tanker Eventin, which ran aground near the German island of Rugen the day before, is being towed further east for safety reasons.. The ship is on Greenpeace's list of Russian " Tagesspiegel reports this. The storm made it difficult to secure the 274-meter-long oil tanker in its planned location.. The tanker must change its position, for which additional ships and a group of experts were involved. Then there will be a little more free sea space in the south if something unexpected happens, a representative of the rescue service command explained. A team of experts worked for about three hours to ensure that the ship's cargo of about 100,000 tons of oil was evenly distributed between the tugs.. The four sailors were lowered from a federal police helicopter onto the deck and then raised back up again.. The storm complicates the situation. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), wind gusts of up to force 9 are expected on Saturday morning and force 7 until Sunday. No oil contamination has been detected yet.

Environmentalists are monitoring the situation. Eventin was drifting in the Baltic Sea north of Rugen after a complete power failure on board, the so-called blackout, due to which its side lights did not light up. On Friday, January 10, the tanker was successfully connected to the emergency tug, which kept it in place. Subsequently, two more ships were brought in for reinforcements..
