On January 5, in the occupied territory of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, IAEA staff recorded two loud explosions near the station. This is stated in the statement of the IAEA Director General on the situation in Ukraine. It is noted that the explosions near the Zaporizhia NPP coincided in time with reports of a drone attack on the station’s training center, which became another threat to nuclear safety at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. Two loud explosions reportedly occurred outside the station perimeter at approximately 12:45 and 15:45. " The IAEA team also reported that it had repeatedly heard machine gun fire coming from the site,” the Agency noted.. The IAEA also became aware of a report of a “probable drone attack on the Zaporizhia NPP training center today, directly outside the plant perimeter”.

There were no casualties and no impact on any nuclear power plant equipment.. We would like to remind you that the IAEA previously reported an incident at the Zaporizhia NPP. At reactor No. 1, a microcrack was discovered in the cooling pump support system pipeline. It was also reported that the IAEA extended the monitoring mission at Ukrainian substations that are important for the operation of nuclear power plants.
