The Verkhovna Rada is discussing an option to replace military service with military training. According to the deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Yegor Chernev, all men of military age, including people’s deputies, should undergo such training.
He said this in an interview with Ukrainian News..
Earlier, his colleague from Servant of the People, David Arakhamia, said that military exercises could be organized for deputies and civil servants in order to motivate Ukrainians not to be afraid of mobilization.

“That announcement from Arakhamia was contrary to the norm that is now in the new draft law on mobilization in order to generally change approaches to military service. There is a proposal to change it from 12-18 months to three months of training plus two months of professional training. But make it mandatory for everyone who falls under a certain age, including deputies. I absolutely support this and think that all men of mobilization age should still undergo such basic training,” Chernev said.

The parliamentarian also believes that blocking the accounts of draft dodgers, which is envisaged by the new mobilization bill, could negatively affect the economy. In his opinion, increasing fines would have a much better effect.
In addition, Chernev said that the norm of the new mobilization bill provides that Ukrainians liable for military service must update their data in the TCC within 60 days. This can be done, including using the conscript’s electronic account. But there is a certain conflict with this.

Let us recall that the head of the Nikolaev OVA Vitaly Kim said that Russia currently has certain results in the information war against Ukraine. He explained this by the fact that the media space began to increasingly accuse theses that deputies and law enforcement officers should be sent to war, and subsequently these ideas were picked up and disseminated by Ukrainians themselves. He emphasized that there are few deputies, so “they will be of no use at the front, and the police must ensure order.”.
His opinion is supported by Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Alexander Kornienko. He believes that the mobilization of deputies, which Ukrainians are calling for, will play into the hands of Russia. According to him, there are several reasons why this category of citizens is not subject to the general rules of conscription. Among them is the legislative-constitutional one, because “if people’s deputies are mobilized, then there will be no one else to pass laws, and they will also have to pay more than 100 thousand if they are in a combat zone, which is at least 20 thousand more than parliamentarians.
This, Kornienko believes, will also not please the Ukrainians..

In Ukraine, work is underway on a new draft law on mobilization. It provides for the introduction of basic military service. And although this innovation was one of the least controversial, the consequences of its implementation may be an unpleasant surprise for some men. Vladimir Romanchuk writes about this in the article “Years of eligibility: how youth 18–25 years old can be mobilized”.
