As a result of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, the only state-owned sturgeon plant in Ukraine was flooded. This is reported by the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

This is a direct threat to the further reproduction of sturgeon populations, which can lead to the disappearance of these relic species in the water bodies of our state, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy says.. Every year, the plant ensured the introduction of over 1.5 million specimens of young sturgeons. Currently, the scale of destruction and the amount of damage are established. Given the special conservation status of sturgeon species, the destruction of the sturgeon plant will have very negative consequences for the ecological state of Ukraine and the countries of the Black Sea basin.

In total, as a result of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP, the damage to the fishing industry of Ukraine from the death of only adults can reach UAH 4 billion. In total, according to preliminary calculations, losses from the death of all biological resources will amount to 10.5 billion. UAH.
