Senior Researcher at the Department of Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture of the Kherson State Agrarian and Economic University Evgeny Korzhov spoke about possible threats to the ecosystem due to the undermining of the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP by the Russian troops. In a commentary to Suspіlny, the scientist noted that the area of \u200b\u200bflooding will be about 100 square kilometers: from Novaya Kakhovka to Kizomys.

" Below the level will rise to a meter of height from the current one and further there will be half a meter to 0.3 in the Kizomis area. For the lower reaches of the Dnieper, this situation is not dangerous, since the level rise will be short-term, no more than a week. And what are the consequences: the water from the Kakhovka reservoir will wash out all the low-lying sections of the coastal strips of the lower reaches of the Dnieper and will flow further,"

The scientist also noted that the drainage of the reservoir will have negative consequences for the environment:

As a result of undermining the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by Russian troops on the night of June 6, a significant part of the coastal territories downstream of the Dnieper were flooded, including the cities of Kherson, Novaya Kakhovka and others. While the Ukrainian authorities are evacuating the population from the right bank of the river, the worst situation is on the left bank of the Dnieper, which is temporarily occupied by Russian troops.
