As a result of undermining the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by Russian troops on the night of June 6, a significant part of the coastal territories downstream of the Dnieper was flooded, including the cities of Kherson, Novaya Kakhovka and others. While the Ukrainian authorities are evacuating the population from the right bank of the river, the worst situation is on the left bank of the Dnieper, which is temporarily occupied by Russian troops.

According to the government of Ukraine, 80 settlements on both banks of the river are in the flood zone..

In particular, the chairman of the Kherson OVA, Alexander Prokudin, said that as of the morning, the following settlements were completely or partially flooded: Tyaginka, Lviv, Odradokamenka, Berislavsky district, Ivanovka, Nikolskoye Tokarevka, Ponyatovka, Belozerka, the Ostrov microdistrict of the city of Kherson, Kherson district.

On the left bank, the flood will primarily affect Novaya Kakhovka, which in fact has already gone under water, the city of Golaya Pristan, Oleshki, the villages of Dnepryany, Korsunka, Krynki, Cossack Camps, Podstepnoye, Poyma, Sandstone, Sagi, Nechaevo, Kardashchinka, salt licks, Podli.

According to experts, the water will rise uninterruptedly for 14 hours.. Further, its level can stabilize. At the same time, a decrease in the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir carries risks of water shortages in a number of cities, such as Krivoy Rog, where water supply is already limited. Also, the undermining of the dam excludes the supply of water through the canal to the Crimea..

Recall that on the night of June 6, the Russian military blew up a dam at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. According to local residents, there was only one explosion, but after it the structures began to collapse one after another.. Cities and villages down the Dnieper are threatened with flooding. The authorities of the Kherson OVO announced an urgent evacuation.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it was aware of reports of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. They say agency experts at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant are closely monitoring the situation.. The IAEA assures that there is no immediate threat to nuclear safety at the plant.

Ukrhydroenergo has already stated that the station is completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
