Among the traditional holidays in Ukraine, the majority of the population names Easter and Christmas as the most popular holidays, as well as the Independence Day of Ukraine and the Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine, which over the past year pushed New Year to fifth place among their favorite holidays, according to a survey by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology.
According to the survey, the majority of the population of Ukraine celebrates Easter and Christmas as the most popular holidays, with a percentage of 70% and 69% respectively.
The greatest changes have occurred over the past year in relation to the Independence Day of Ukraine and the Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine. If the Independence Day of Ukraine before the full-scale war with Russia was valued by only 37% of the population, now it is named among the favorite holidays by 63%. At the same time, in 2013, before the Russian attack on Ukraine, it was generally one of the most unpopular holidays - only 12% considered it important or favorite.
The Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine used to be popular only among 29%, and now among 54%, that is, 25 percentage points more.
But the New Year, which all the years shared the place with Christmas and Easter, is now only in fifth place with a percentage of 52%.
But the attitude towards International Women's Day on March 8 has worsened, its popularity has decreased from 34% to 25% over the past two years..
The least popular holidays this year are Victory Day and Labor Day - only 13% and 5% of Ukrainians celebrate these dates as favorite or important.

The survey was conducted on February 14-22, 2023 by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology using the method of telephone interviews among 2002 respondents living in all regions of Ukraine (except for the Autonomous Republic of Crimea).
