Latvia will play the role of a lawyer for Ukraine in the issue of creating a special tribunal on the actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk announced this on her Facebook page..

According to the vice-speaker, this issue was discussed at a meeting with the Minister of Justice of Latvia, Ines Libina-Egnere. It was about legal support for the confiscation of the frozen sanctioned assets of the Russian Federation for the restoration of Ukraine, which is associated with the creation of a tribunal.

" Appropriate legal mechanisms for the confiscation of frozen sanctioned assets of Russia should be created at the level of the European Union.

The Minister of Justice assured that Latvia will play the role of a lawyer for Ukraine in this matter,"

The Vice Speaker added that, in the opinion of the Minister of Justice of Latvia, all EU countries should work together to achieve appropriate regulation of this issue at the community level..

" Therefore, only one freeze of Russian funds and assets by the EU countries is not enough. These funds should be confiscated and used as soon as possible to restore Ukraine, without waiting for the end of the war,"
