This week, two Ukrainian political prisoners from Crimea, Konstantin Shiring and Dzhemil Gafarov, died in Russian colonies, defendants in the cases of “Ukrainian saboteurs” and the “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” falsified by the occupiers.. Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said in an interview with Radio NV that the international community still does not have a clear and serious reaction to the death of two citizens of Ukraine.

“We sent an urgent letter to the UN Committee for the Prevention of Torture. I am now preparing a letter to all other international institutions that should record the facts of illegal detention and murder of our citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation,” Lubinets said..

He called the whole situation nonsense.. After all, the citizens of Ukraine lived on their territory legally, and this territory was illegally annexed by the Russian Federation. And after that, the aggressor country accuses Ukrainian citizens under Russian law.

“From the point of view of international law, this is nonsense. But once again we do not record, in my opinion, a clear, serious reaction from the international community. I would very much like (now we are preparing separate documents) for this to become a separate [issue] for consideration by the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly on the illegal detention of thousands and tens of thousands of Russian civilians,” added Lubinets.

He stressed that Russia has been illegally holding Ukrainian citizens since 2014, arresting without evidence, condemning, giving some long terms, as if accusing everyone of participating in a terrorist organization or spying for Ukraine on the territory of the Russian Federation..

“On this issue, a separate resolution should be made, which should become an additional fact, an argument for extending the sanctions policy against the Russian Federation, imposing new sanctions on the leaders of the Russian state, everyone who takes part in this. And this is an additional argument in order to finally decide on the creation of an international tribunal that will condemn the top military-political leadership of the Russian Federation, having already finally recognized that terrorists are at the head,” Lubinets added..

Konstantin Shiring, who died on February 7, was detained by the Russians in the temporarily occupied Crimea in 2020. At the same time, the occupiers illegally deprived a citizen of Ukraine of freedom due to accusations of participation in the activities of the " Three days later, on February 10, news came of the death of 60-year-old Dzhemil Gafarov, who was held in the Novocherkassk pre-trial detention center. Gafarov was illegally detained by Russian security forces during the largest wave of searches in Crimea on March 27, 2019. On that day, Russian security forces detained 20 Crimean Tatars.

Jemil Gafarov, like other detainees, was accused of allegedly “participating in the activities of a terrorist organization” (the so-called “Hizb ut-Tahrir case”).

Both political prisoners had serious health problems. And Jemil Gafarov even had a second disability group. Moreover, before the illegal conclusion, the disability group of the man was the third. However, the Russians did not provide any of the citizens of Ukraine with proper medical care and kept them in inadequate conditions.. A number of human rights organizations demand an investigation into the death of Ukrainian captives of the Kremlin.
