Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets said that Ukraine and Russia are considering the possibility of conducting a humanitarian corridor through Turkey, which will allow thousands of our civilian and military people to return home. Such an initiative arose during a conversation with Russian Ombudswoman Tatyana Moskalkova and Turkish counterpart Sheref Malkoch, he said during an interview with Ukrinform..

" When the idea arose along the corridor, of course, we agreed to it,"

This idea has already been discussed with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and also declared publicly. During the meeting, they also discussed the successful mediation of Ankara in the grain corridor. Lubinets hopes this humanitarian initiative will be the same.

" At the same time, we do not divide them according to priorities - this is a question of both prisoners of war and civilians, we are talking about the return of children, the restoration of documents, and so on.. This is how the humanitarian corridor initiative was born,"

According to the Ombudsman, such a corridor should apply to all Ukrainians without exception, not only the military.

" Moreover, the Russian side agrees that we must act solely on the basis of the Geneva Convention,"

Lubinets recalled that article 110 of the JK says that seriously wounded prisoners are returned to the other side, in our case, Ukraine, without any conditions.. In this case, we should not talk about the exchange, but about repatriation. They can be moved to a neutral country agreed by both parties. Turkey has already confirmed that it is ready to take our wounded prisoners to itself, treat them, and then return them home.

At the first stage of the operation of this corridor, Ukraine should at least receive information from Russia on the condition and whereabouts of the Ukrainians it detains.. Their return home will be discussed at the second stage..
