ISW recalled the results of a new survey conducted by the Levada Center organization. While a majority of Russians still support military action against Ukraine, public support for the war is slowly declining, according to the poll..
Sociologists said that 48% of respondents support the continuation of hostilities against Ukraine. 44% of respondents are in favor of peace talks.
A poll conducted in March 2022 showed that 53% of respondents in the Russian Federation strongly supported military actions against Ukraine, but by August the percentage of respondents with this position had dropped to 46%.
“This is a minor deterioration that will not fundamentally affect the Kremlin’s ability to wage war.. However, declining support and war weariness are likely to increasingly hamper Russian recruiting and force-building efforts,” analysts said..
The ISW also said that the Russian Federation will intensify the disinformation campaign around the Ukrainian counter-offensive in order to reinforce false claims that the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the Kherson region is detrimental to the continued existence of Ukraine..
Russia will in all likelihood continue to spread these false narratives to take advantage of the lack of statements from the Ukrainian military.
