Recently, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported in the first reading the scandalous draft law “On Media”, which contains dubious norms for the participation of power structures in regulating the work of the media. In addition, the activities of the media will be indirectly controlled by the Ministry of Justice, which will check the reputation of potential buyers of information resources as part of the enforcement of the law on deoligarchization.. This was stated by the Minister of Justice Denis Malyuska.
The message on the official website of the Ministry of Justice says that this decision will ensure the implementation of the Law "
“Based on the request of the buyer (potential buyer) of the media, our relevant department will check the business reputation of such an acquirer. That is, an assessment of information on the detection of compliance or non-compliance of the specified person with the requirements of the Law on Deoligarchization will be provided.. In the future, the results of such a check will be sent to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and will be reported to the relevant media buyer,” explained Minister of Justice Denys Malyuska..

Recall that within the framework of the law on deoligarchization, the richest Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov abandoned his media business in favor of the state.
For more details on how the war affected Akhmetov’s media business and why the transfer of Media Group Ukraine channels to the state can be easily explained from a logical point of view, read the article by Valery Kalnysh “Why Akhmetov will remain an oligarch, and the president can become a media mogul”.
