The Odessa regional military administration recommends that the city council of Odessa dismantle the monuments to Catherine II and Alexander Suvorov. It is reported by "
The need to dismantle the monuments that hostile propaganda uses to promote ideas regarding the belonging of the territory of the Odessa region to the Russian Federation is justified, in particular, by the “relevance of the issue of cleaning the public space of Ukrainian cities from the layers of Russian imperial stamps and myths”.
The letter also notes that these monuments were not taken under state protection as objects of cultural heritage..
“Please note that the monument to the founders of Odessa (Catherine II) and the monument to Suvorov were not accepted as objects of cultural heritage in accordance with the procedure established by law under the protection of the state, which means that there is no need to obtain special permits from the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy to take measures to dismantle them. Given the above, the regional state administration recommends considering the dismantling of these monuments,” the document says..
Other monuments in honor of cultural and military figures of the Russian Empire, which are objects of cultural heritage, should be excluded from public space by transferring them to museums.
Recall that recently the mayor of Odessa said that Ukraine should look for compromises with Russia.
Earlier, Gennady Trukhanov announced the renaming of a number of streets due to the unwillingness of the city to have nothing to do with Russia..
And back in October 2020, Gennady Trukhanov tried to return the old name to Heavenly Hundred Avenue - Marshal Zhukov Avenue. He expressed the opinion that Marshal of the USSR Georgy Zhukov does not fall under the law on decommunization.
