In the event of a nuclear release as a result of an accident at one of the power units at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the radiation cloud, in accordance with the wind direction forecast for Monday, August 29, will cover part of the south of Ukraine and the southwestern regions of Russia, analysts of the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine predict.

Thus, according to the wind rose forecast for the coming days, the radiation spread cloud that may arise after the accident at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant will move downwind to the southeast towards Russia and cover part of southern Ukraine.

In case of such a situation, the specialists of the State Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Ukraine ask the population in potentially dangerous areas to undergo iodine prophylaxis and limit their stay on the street as much as possible, while using protective equipment for the respiratory system.

Also, the population is advised to tightly close windows and doors, turn off air conditioners, fans, close ventilation ducts, chimneys and organize sanitary barriers at the entrances to the premises - places where you can take off your outerwear and change shoes.

As noted in the SNRCU, the forecast of the spread of radiation is made daily for each nuclear power plant in Ukraine, taking into account the real conditions for assessing the directions and distances of the spread of radioactive substances in the event of their release..

“These predictive estimates are necessary for the timely provision of recommendations to the authorities on radiation protection measures for the population of Ukraine, as well as informing neighboring countries in the event of a risk of transboundary transfer,” the inspectorate noted..

Recall that on August 25, Energoatom reported that the Russian invaders had achieved a complete disconnection of the Zaporozhye NPP from the power grid as a result of damage to the power grids.

The next day, Ukrainian power engineers managed to launch two power units and resume the flow of electricity to the energy systems of Ukraine.

Earlier, Ukrainian experts warned that the lack of regular power supply to the nuclear power plant would make it impossible to cool the nuclear fuel and lead to the release of radioactive substances, as happened at the Japanese Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant.. What the Kremlin is up to and how to counteract it, Mikhail Gonchar explains in the article "
