The head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov said that after the victory in the war, Ukraine will conduct an investigation into who cleared Chongar, as well as bridges on all the Crimean isthmuses, as a result of which the Russian troops were able to quickly advance across the territory of the Kherson region. Reznikov spoke about this in an interview with UP.

He explained that decisions to clear mines or landmines can only be taken by the military.

“I will absolutely responsibly tell you that the decision to mine, clear mines, press a button to blow something up, does not fall within the competence of civilian authorities at all.. Not to the government, not to the president, not to the minister of defense, not to the prime minister, not to people's deputies, not to you, not to anyone,” the head of the Defense Ministry stressed, stressing that this is purely the competence of the military.

Reznikov also said that this issue was discussed at a meeting of the relevant parliamentary committee.

“I was on it together with General Zaluzhny, our commander in chief and chief of the General Staff, General Shaptala. Our military gave the following explanation that after the victory, an appropriate investigation would be carried out,” he added..

The head of the Ministry of Defense promised that if the facts are established that any of the military or representatives of other security and defense forces have committed a crime, they will definitely be held accountable..

“But today I don’t want to influence the investigation, as General Zaluzhny said, because everyone will have their own truth, and we are now at war, and now the task is to win this war,” Reznikov said..

However, according to him, the military understands that this is a matter for the military, so they themselves are interested in investigating. In addition, facts are already being collected and recorded, including by the SBU and counterintelligence..

“I repeat once again: was there sabotage, was there espionage, was there a provocation, or senseless negligence of someone - but this is definitely not for the civilian part of the government, this is a question of the management of the security and defense sector. That is, people in uniform who were responsible for this direction,"

The head of the Ministry of Defense also said that undermining the bridge would not affect the ability of the Russian troops to move through the territory of the Kherson region.

“I can only say one thing, I applied this argument while defending our military during the meeting of this parliamentary committee: everyone who shouted “Everything is lost, the bridge was not blown up! \! And they will tell you that there are 10 more passages from Crimea by land, and not by bridges! And therefore, undermining the bridge would not affect the ability of the Russians to move in this direction..

This was responsibly said by one of the military generals, who is now in the political opposition, I heard it from him for the first time,” Reznikov explained..

Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine commented on rumors that allegedly before the invasion of Russian troops, the Ukrainian command cleared the passage near Chongar on the administrative border with Russian-occupied Crimea. The General Staff said that all conclusions about the legality of the decisions made during the hostilities will be made in the manner prescribed by law after they are completed..
