Former CIA director and former head of US Central Command David Petraeus believes that Ukraine will be able to return the territories seized by Russia during the war, reports DW.

In his opinion, it is increasingly likely that Ukrainian forces will be able to retake most, if not all, of the territory seized by the Russian occupiers in recent months..

“If NATO and Western countries continue to provide resources at the current pace. I think that the Ukrainian forces will be able to stop the further advance of Russia and begin to retake the territories captured by the Russians since February 24,” Petraeus said..

He also warned about the consequences that a Russian victory could have for Europe, and said that NATO was already aware of this..

“A Russian military success in Ukraine – which I consider very unlikely – would be disastrous for European security.. Frankly, I believe that the leaders of NATO - and Western countries outside the Alliance - have recognized this and are taking the necessary steps to prevent Russia from succeeding, ”Petraeus said..

Back in early May, in an interview with DW, Petraeus, answering a question about the possibility of the Russian Federation using nuclear or other weapons of mass destruction, called for a serious assessment of the threat to Moscow, but considered the risks themselves low.

“I am inclined to believe, and there is a consensus here, that the use of nuclear or chemical weapons is unlikely, because the crossing of these red lines would have too significant consequences,” the general explained at the time..

Formerly former commander of US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, said that Ukrainian defenders will be able to push Russian troops back to the line on February 23 before the end of this year.. However, for this it is important to establish a rapid supply of weapons..
