Director Elizaveta Tatarinova made a film about occupied Kherson, which was presented on Youtube on Tuesday, July 26.
Ribbon " Chronicles of Hell" The heroes of the film are Kherson residents who survived the abduction and torture, activists, volunteers, journalists.
This is the second film from the Chronicles of Hell cycle, created by the Ukrainian production company TV-Studio, screenwriter and director of which was TV journalist Elizaveta Tatarinova. The first film " Chronicles of Hell”, which premiered in May, collected more than one and a half million views on Youtube and was shown on the air of leading Ukrainian, German, Austrian, Portuguese, Spanish, Canadian, Estonian and Latvian TV channels.
" Chronicles of Hell tells about life in the occupation. About how Russian propaganda is trying to present this life as peaceful and beautiful, the occupying authorities kidnap and torture the townspeople, leave Kherson residents in informational isolation, do not allow them to leave the occupied region. In fact, several thousand Ukrainian citizens were held hostage by the Russian military.
The most difficult thing in working on the film, the authors admit, was to find people who would agree to testify about what is happening in the occupied region.. For, despite the fact that they managed to leave, their relatives and friends remained in Kherson, who are in danger. “When the film was almost edited, the family of the girl who agreed to be the main character of the tape and filmed video diaries about life in the occupied village near Kherson was invaded by the FSB. Somehow they found out about the activities of the activist. Fortunately, the girl was not hurt, but we had to remove all episodes with her participation from the film and change the script so as not to endanger the person.. These are the realities of life in Ukrainian cities occupied by Russia,” says Elizaveta Tatarinova.
The events in the film unfold from the beginning of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine until the end of May - because of the chronicle of the life of Kherson. “What is happening in Kherson is very difficult to show on video. Because all the horror, this quiet terror takes place at night in basements. And I don't know which is better - when a rocket flies into your house or when they put you against the wall in some basement where they bring you from your own house? - says one of the characters in the film.
