Ukraine has recorded 124 cases of war-related sexual violence since Russia's full-scale invasion, according to UN Special Representative for Sexual Violence in Conflict Pramila Patten..

According to Patten, these data are just the tip of the iceberg and do not reflect the real scale of sexual violence in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine.. Among the reasons why investigating sexual violence is difficult now:.

the victims' fear of revealing the details of the perversions to which the occupiers subjected their bodies;

at the same time, there are too many allegations of sexual violence that investigators do not have time to process (some investigators now account for 200 criminal proceedings each);

part of the victims of violence who are in the occupied territories do not have the opportunity to report crimes.

On July 8, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic published a memorandum on the human rights implications of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Rights violated include: the right to life, including arbitrary killings and enforced disappearances; property rights, including massive destruction of civilian infrastructure; the right to be protected from torture and ill-treatment, gender-based violence and war-related sexual violence; the right to liberty and security, including abduction and arbitrary or incommunicado detention.
