Ukraine managed to free two heads of local councils from Russian captivity, the Association of Ukrainian Cities said in a statement..

We are talking about Golopristan mayor Oleksandr Babich and Stanislav village mayor Ivan Samoylenko from Kherson region.

Babich spent three months in captivity - on March 28 he was kidnapped by the enemy because of his patriotic position and refusal to cooperate with the invaders.

Ivan Samoylenko was taken prisoner on June 24 when leaving, together with communal workers, to an emergency site to repair the electrical network.

Both were released from captivity on June 28.

According to the PSA, the occupiers are holding three more heads of city councils, their fate is unknown. In total, during the full-scale war, the Russian military kidnapped 55 officials, of which 30 were mayors..

On June 10, Oleg Pilipenko, the head of the Shevchenko community of Mykolaiv region, was rescued from Russian captivity.
