Deputies of the city council of Novograd-Volynsky in the Zhytomyr region decided to return to the city the historical name Zvyagel, which the city had until 1795.

The mayor's office noted that in general, the majority of the city's residents support the return of the historical name that the city had since the Middle Ages..

22 deputies of the city council and the mayor voted for the change of the name of the city, 4 voted against, and 4 more abstained.

The final decision to give the city the name Zvyagel has yet to be approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
