Ukraine faces a tough gas supply winter due to the war against Russia, but the government is already working on a solution to this problem. This statement was made by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy Andriy Gerus on the air of a single news marathon.
According to preliminary data, the country will need from 21 to 24 billion cubic meters of gas for the next heating season.. Gerus noted that now the figures are indicative, since the situation in Ukraine may change by the end of summer.. In his opinion, this will depend on three factors:.
what will be the situation with the occupied territories;
will it be possible to rebuild the infrastructure in the destroyed cities;
how many enterprises will resume full-fledged work.
“Definitely today we need to prepare. And our largest national company Naftogaz is already conducting trips and meetings with representatives of other countries. This is necessary in order to jointly build this work on gas injection. The winter is expected to be difficult, but we will do everything so that we have both light and warmth,” Gerus said..
The head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on energy issues also added that Ukraine is looking for different options for gas purchases abroad..
In particular, we are talking about Slovakia, Hungary and Poland, where fuel is supplied from the USA, Norway, Asia and even Africa.. In addition, Gerus noted that Ukrainian companies currently produce more gas than they need for consumption and sale, so the corresponding reserves are accumulated in underground gas storage facilities for use in winter..
