history of the holiday.

The date of foundation of Kyiv is 482. According to legend, the city was founded by three brothers: Kyi, Shchek, Khoriv and their sister Lybid. In honor of the first of them, the city was named, and the names of others were immortalized in the names of streets, mountains and quarters of the city.. River named after sister.

The holiday dedicated to the capital of Ukraine was not celebrated until the 1980s. In 1982 Kyiv celebrated its 1500th anniversary. This event was celebrated with large-scale events, but then the celebration was again forgotten.

Celebrating the Day of Kyiv began annually only in 1987.

Today, Ukraine lives in the conditions of a full-scale invasion of Russia. In the first days of aggression, the invaders tried to capture the capital of Ukraine, shelled it and occupied the cities and towns of the Kyiv region.

At the end of March, the Russians announced the withdrawal of their troops from Kyiv.

And already in early April, terrible footage from the de-occupied Bucha, Gostomel and Irpin flew around the world, which caused natural indignation among the leaders of all civilized countries.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that thanks to the Ukrainian military, Kyiv did not suffer much damage during the attempts of the Russian army to attack the capital of Ukraine. But Irpen, Bucha and Gostomel were completely destroyed, these cities became the protection of the capital of our country.

According to Klitschko, Kyiv was and remains the main goal of Russia, but the occupiers will not be able to capture it.
