Today there is a lot of talk about the possibility of using chemical or nuclear weapons.. About whether any exercises are being held in Ukraine and whether it is possible to be ready to use nuclear weapons in an interview with ZN. UA, said the chief sanitary doctor of Ukraine Igor Kuzin, with whom Alla Kotlyar spoke.

At the level of all regions, specialized groups for chemical observation and control were created. They work 24/7 under the coordination of the control and prevention centers of the Ministry of Health. We have worked throughout the country to deliver specific antidotes used in the treatment of chemical weapons injuries.. In sufficient quantities, they were delivered to the level of regional hospitals, emergency medical care, and clinical hospitals,” said Kuzin..

In addition, according to him, standards for the provision of medical care were developed and updated.. Since 2019, an algorithm for providing medical assistance in the event of the use of chemical weapons has been approved in Ukraine. Now, as Kuzin explained, the Ministry of Health has developed additional instructional orders for medical sorting in the event of a mass arrival of victims.. Guidelines were developed for the provision of emergency medical care as a result of the actions of chemical agents.

“Separately, we have developed a regulatory document on actions in case of damage by phosphorus munitions. In eastern Ukraine, in particular in Popasna, the Russians used banned phosphorus munitions, which have dire consequences.. Also, methodological recommendations were developed on the algorithm of emergency medical care when using weapons of mass destruction - chemical, biological, radiation agents,"

He added that a video course on how to provide emergency medical care was also developed and recorded.. It is publicly available on YouTube. Kuzin assured that almost all emergency representatives listened to him.

“Also developed attractions for the public - actions in the event of a chemical hazard. And reminders for medical workers on responding to a chemical threat. Of course, we do not have clear information about what else the aggressor can use against Ukrainians, but the system is as ready as possible for the effective provision of medical care in the event of a massive influx of victims, ”said the sanitary doctor..

Answering the question whether it is possible to be ready for the use of nuclear weapons, Igor Kuzin said that “in the event of radiation and nuclear threats, the healthcare system should be ready for the use of nuclear weapons and for potential accidents at nuclear power plants - man-made disasters, shelling, etc..

“According to the latter, the only means of prevention for all of us is probably potassium iodide, which is used once at a dose of 125 mg for an adult and 65 mg for a child.. It is important to voice that potassium iodide is now in sufficient quantity, and should only be used in the area affected by this nuclear power plant. That is, it does not need to be consumed in Chernivtsi or other areas where there is no nuclear power plant,” said the sanitary doctor..

He explained that the drug is applied only as the radioactive cloud advances.. Relevant instructions are available in all health departments within a radius of 100 km from each nuclear power plant.

“Issues of readiness for these things have been worked out. Here Ukraine, unfortunately, already has a very sad experience of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. As for nuclear weapons - tactical or non-tactical, there are no means of prevention.

The only measure that can be applied is physical, staying in fortified bomb shelters. In fact, prevention from nuclear weapons cannot be as such. In this case, the healthcare system can only take measures to treat acute radiation sickness,” Kuzin explained..
