The Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Onufry of Kyiv, who in his services continues to mention Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church, addressed the President of Russia regarding the situation in Mariupol.
In his appeal to the Russian leader, he forgives giving the opportunity to evacuate both civilians and military from Mariupol, and appeals to Putin with the fact that his family survived the blockade of Leningrad during World War II.
“The difficult situation in which the inhabitants and defenders of Mariupol found themselves prompts me to ask you as a person whose family survived the blockade of Leningrad, and whose elder brother Viktor died in 1942. ... In the same situation today are the inhabitants of Mariupol and its defenders. It is my pastoral duty to ask you to provide an opportunity for everyone who wants to leave the city of Mariupol - both civilians and the military, ”says Onuphry’s appeal, which is published on the official website of the UOC-MP.
The metropolitan also asks Putin “in the name of the Risen Christ” to show humanism and behave like a Christian and to enable “civilians, police officers, border guards and soldiers who are surrounded to enter the territory controlled by Ukraine or the territory of third countries”.

It should be noted that the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches have collected over four hundred signatures under an appeal to the Primates of the Eastern Churches on the trial of Patriarch Kirill, who supported the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
The head of the UOC-MP Onufry from the first day condemned the war of Russia against Ukraine, but did not dare to declare a break with the Russian Orthodox Church, which openly blesses the war and the destruction of the Ukrainian people as such.
Recall that a draft law on banning the activities of the Moscow Patriarchate on the territory of the country was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The bill proposes to ban the activities in Ukraine of the Russian Orthodox Church and religious organizations that are part of it, in particular, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the MP, and all property of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine should be nationalized.
At the same time, a number of Ukrainian cities at the local government level banned the activities of the UOC-MP on the territory of their own communities..
