Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanyshina said that Ukraine could get the status of a candidate for EU membership in June. Stefanishina wrote about this on Twitter.

“Ukraine has received an application for EU membership. We have already done a lot of preparatory work, so we are ready to act quickly. We expect to receive candidate status in June,” Olga Stefanishina said in a statement..

According to her, the status of an EU candidate is part of “recovery and victory over the Russian aggressor who wants to change the democratic course of Ukraine”.

The Deputy Prime Minister also stressed that the European Commission itself confirms that Ukraine has already done most of the work that countries have been going through for years..

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky received a questionnaire that must be completed in order for Ukraine to obtain the status of a candidate for the European Union.. The document was handed over personally after negotiations with Zelensky by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

Von der Leyen clarified that this is an accelerated procedure, since relations between Ukraine and the EU are so developed that Brussels does not need answers. However, she did not predict when the EU might make a political decision on granting candidate status..
