In Uzhgorod, local residents ask local authorities to de-Russify the names of streets and squares in the city.

“Many streets, squares, alleys of our city are named after Russian figures of politics, literature and art, who are in no way involved in Transcarpathia and Uzhgorod, which means they are an atavism of the previous policy of building an all-Russian and all-Soviet cultural space,” the appeal says..

Residents are asked to start the process of de-Russification of the city according to the procedure established by law.

They want to rename the streets of Gagarin, Glinka, Griboyedov, Pushkin, Tchaikovsky, Shishkin, Chekhov, Decembrists, Chelyuskintsev and others.

Uzhgorod residents in appeal asked to dismantle the bust of Pushkin in the center of Uzhgorod.

" It is their memory we must perpetuate and cherish. In addition, outstanding figures of the history and culture of Transcarpathia in particular and Ukraine as a whole, who were banned during the Soviet period, deserve respect,"
