There is a war going on in Ukraine, thousands of families are forced to evacuate to safer regions or go abroad. We remind you of the basic crossing rules and useful contacts that will facilitate the procedure.

Previously, we also published useful contacts through which Ukrainians can find everything they need at home and abroad.

Recall that you need to cross the border only through the checkpoints of the State Border Service, on the western border they work around the clock.

You need to have a foreign passport (biometric or non-biometric), an internal passport (“booklet” or ID-card). In some cases, border guards may let you through a photocopy or a photocopy of a document.

Even if you do not have a passport, you can still enter the countries of the European Union - for the duration of the war, entry rules were somewhat relaxed.

In addition, in the Diya application, you can generate a temporary document with passport data, it will be valid until the end of martial law. Moldova already allows Ukrainians with digital documents.

Women and children cross the border freely. Children and teenagers under 16 can travel abroad only accompanied by a parent, with a birth certificate or documents confirming the relationship (the permission of the other parent is not needed).

Young people over 16 can cross the border on their own if they have a passport (biometric or non-biometric) or an ID card. Parental permission is not required.

For the duration of martial law, the crossing of the border by orphans and children deprived of parental care was also simplified.

Men from 18 to 60 years old are not allowed out of the country during the war. The only exceptions are drivers crossing the border to pick up and deliver humanitarian cargo to Ukraine..

But some men of military age can still leave the country: if they are unfit for service, are a parent of many children, a guardian, have close relatives who died or went missing during the anti-terrorist operation, etc..

The absence of a COVID-19 vaccination certificate or a certificate of recovery should not prevent entry into the EU during the war in Ukraine. You can find up-to-date information on anti-epidemic rules here..

If you cross the border by car, the Green Card insurance policy is optional. Also, a notarized power of attorney from the owner to transport the car across the border is unnecessary if you are driving someone else's car.

Pet owners should take their veterinary passport with them, although the presence of this document is also not required..

After crossing the border, you can use the temporary protection mechanism and obtain a residence permit valid for 1 year, or apply for refugee status. Note that some EU member states, such as Denmark, do not participate in the temporary protection scheme and do not apply the rules regarding refugee status.
