Ukraine allowed the introduction of a booster dose of the vaccine against coronavirus infection for all vaccinated adults. It can be obtained at vaccination centers, vaccination points, and train stations.. It is reported by the Ministry of Health.

Booster dose: why take another shot.

The Ministry of Health noted that the introduction of a booster COVID vaccine has shown its safety, as well as the ability to enhance the immune response against various strains of SARS-CoV-2.

It is reported that the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine against the Omicron strain is significantly lower compared to the Delta variant and decreases rapidly over time, especially in older people.. Booster shot brings COVID vaccines closer to 90% effective in preventing coronavirus hospitalizations.

What vaccines are used for booster vaccination against COVID-19.

With the introduction of a booster vaccination, preference will be given to mRNA vaccines - Moderna or Comirnaty from Pfizer-BioNTech, regardless of which drug the person was vaccinated with during the primary vaccination.

Individuals receiving the first two doses of the Chinese CoronaVac vaccine from Sinovac Biotech are advised to administer a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

The Ministry of Health added that in the absence of an mRNA vaccine, another booster can be made (according to the vaccination schemes allowed in Ukraine).

Where and when can you get a booster dose of COVID vaccine.

Ukrainians can receive a booster vaccination 6-9 months after the completion of the full course of vaccination in order to strengthen the existing immunity.. Also, after the introduction of the booster, the validity of the COVID certificate is extended by 270 days.

“To receive a new digital document, it is enough to send a request on the portal or in the Diya application not earlier than the last days of January, of course, after vaccination. The procedure for creating a certificate is no different from how COVID certificates are created based on recovery or vaccination. The only difference is the validity period of the new document - it will be valid for 270 days, counting from the date of the last vaccination against COVID-19,” explained Deputy Minister of Health for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization Maria Karcevic.

All Ukrainians who have reached the age of 18 can receive a booster vaccination at vaccination centers or vaccination points.. Their list can be found at the link..

Extra dose of COVID vaccine: who needs it.

For people who have a weakened immune system due to serious illness, an additional dose of vaccination against coronavirus is expected.. This dose is administered 28-90 days after a full course of vaccination against coronavirus infection.. With an additional dose, the validity of the COVID certificate is not renewed and is 270 days from the date of the second dose.

It should be noted that people who receive an additional dose will also be able to receive a booster.. The recommended period for its administration is three to six months after the additional dose..

Recall that research is ongoing in the world to study the new strain "
