The Pour le Chance Theater wrote a play about the life of Jews in medieval Spain in the 10th and 13th centuries, based on the real documents of the era-the letters of Hasdai ibn Shaprut and the historical chronicles of Pedro the Cruel, who, according to one version, was a Jewish child, taken secretly in return for the deceased heir to the palace and became the king of Castile, under which the Jews received temporary relief.

The murder of Pedro the Cruel with his half-brother, Enrique II of Castile, marked the beginning of a new round of persecutions against the Jews.

Our performance is a few centuries of the life of Jews in Spain, from happy and fruitful to the most bloody and terrible.
