Honestly, I expected another from the movie "A Woman in War", because, after reading the announcement, I pictured a serious and with a special effects movie history, such a variant of "Bondiana", only in female guise. And how good that my expectations - did not come true!.
It turned out a very touching story of the latest feat of the environmental defender and terrorist Hulla, who is fighting with the local aluminum smelter. In his spare time from the war with the combine, Halla works as the head of the local choir and waits for a turn for adoption.
Iceland is a beautiful green country, and Hulla loves and appreciates each of its pebbles and moss hills. The heroine of the film is ingenious in its attempts (successful!) To disconnect the plant. She, like Rambo, knows everything: shoot arrows, run around the mountains like a wild goat, cover up tracks, dive into a mountain stream, work with various tools. She is only "wounded" during her last feat, and only a drop of her blood falling on the moss allowed American and Israeli specialists called to help in search of a dangerous extremist to find a criminal.
A very interesting move was invented by the director and screenwriter: the heroine in all her adventures is accompanied by a trio of musicians - drummer, pianist and double bass player. It is their music that creates a charming mood of the film. It is she who makes the film elegant, the music seems to mirror the thoughts of the main character, sometimes the musicians come into conflict with it, sometimes they tell where to move on. Then, when Hull finds out about the possibility to become the mother of four-year-old girl Nicky from Druzhkovka - from our Ukraine, new heroines appear in the film - three singers in Ukrainian costumes sing Ukrainian folk songs, illustrating thoughts about Nick from far Ukraine. In the finale, when Hull gets to Druzhkovka and takes the girl with her, musicians from Iceland and singers from Ukraine sing and play together, very harmoniously, rhythmically and brightly.
Charming main character. For some reason, she forgives everything - even the explosion of the electropor. Very sincere. Very feminine.
The people who surround the main character are played with gentle humor and warmth. Even the unlucky tourist who falls into the paws of Icelandic justice, did not get angry at all. Both Hulla's sister, and her new almost cousin, her friends and chorus - are all played ironically and gently.
I was struck by the beauty of the Icelandic mountains in the film - that would be a ride!
Powerful nature, accustomed to resist the vagaries of nature, developed its survival tactics and bloomed - in the small colors of the mishmash, in which falls the face of Hull to hide and hide - amazing beauty. And it really needs to be protected. So that in these clear meadows and glades in the mountains running, as before, the sheep, in this clear sky flying birds. Camera operator enjoys this beauty. And what a contrast is the industrialized landscape in Druzhkovka!. it becomes clear how we were ruthless towards our nature.
