According to the Ministry of Finance, the reduction in debt is due to both the repayment of part of the obligations, and the strengthening of the national currency.

Since the beginning of the year, the aggregate state (direct) and guaranteed by the state debt in dollar terms decreased by 0.1%, or by 0.05 billion dollars, in the hryvnia, due to its strengthening it declined more significantly - by 6.9%, or by 148, 67 billion UAH.

The Ministry of Finance specified that by the end of May the share of the national debt in US dollars increased from 41.35% to 41.95%, in UAH - from 31.93% to 32.18%, while in the currency of the IMF SDR - fell from 17.66% % to 17.10%, in euro - from 7.9% to 7.61%.

Slightly more than 1% of the national debt is denominated in Canadian dollars and yen.

The official hryvnia exchange rate, according to which the Ministry of Finance calculates the debt, in May strengthened to 26.14 UAH / dollar from 26.23 UAH / dollar in April, while by the end of 2017 it was 28.07 UAH / USD.

According to the estimates of the Ministry of Finance, the national debt by the end of 2018 should not exceed 2.756 trillion UAH.

The ratio of the aggregate state (direct) and guaranteed debt to GDP for 2017 decreased to 71.8% from 80.9%.

Let us remind you that Ukraine's gross external debt as of April 1, 2018 amounted to $ 116.29 billion, which is $ 288 million, or 0.25% lower than the beginning of the year.
