Vessels polluting the Black Sea area remain unpunished and continue their activities. Entrepreneurs are not afraid of low fines and checks.

This was told by the head of the State Ecological Inspectorate of the North-Western region of the Black Sea, the correspondent of the Ukrainian Information Service.

For half a year by results of checks 537 administrative protocols and 521 decision on administrative fines for the sum of 59 636 UAH. Of these, 49 402 UAH were collected. On the facts of pollution of the Black Sea and land, 10 criminal cases were opened. It is noted that the fine for each case of land contamination is from 51 to 163 UAH.

At the same time, the ships from which oil products are discharged into the sea area are not detained and leave ports, despite claims of the environmental inspection.

In addition, the inspection in some cases can not carry out the inspection of vessels, since boarding by law is possible only if there are visible indicators of the pollution of the vessel.

It is very easy to fight against this at the moment. Appropriate criminal cases brought to the end are needed, which are instituted on these aspects. It is also necessary to prevent the situation from happening again in the future. There should be appropriate regulations that are understandable both for the environmental inspection and for the owner of the ship, "said Maxim Stepanov.
