The US State Department appointed a special representative of the United States for negotiations in Ukraine.
He was Kurt Volcker, who previously served as the permanent representative of the United States in NATO, as well as Director for European and Eurasian Affairs of the US National Security Council. This is stated in the White House official report.
The special representative is entrusted with the task of promoting US efforts to achieve the goals enshrined in the Minsk agreements. On Sunday, July 9, the newly appointed representative Volcker will accompany Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during a visit to Kiev and is expected to continue regular meetings with Ukraine and other members of the "Norman Four" - Russia, Germany, France.
"The United States remains fully committed to the goals of the Minsk agreements, and I am fully confident that Kurt will continue our efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine," commented Tillerson.
Kurt Volker is an expert on the countries of the European region and Russia. He is also the executive director of the McCain Institute for International Leadership, a research center affiliated with the University of Arizona.
