Deputies did not support the radical proposal of the party Le Pen.
The European Parliament (EP) voted for the European Commission's proposal to provide Ukraine with additional trade preferences. An appropriate vote took place on Tuesday in Strasbourg in the framework of the plenary meeting of the EP. "For" voted 566 deputies, "against" - 96.
As expected, the deputies agreed with the compromise achieved in the framework of inter-institutional negotiations with the participation of the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament and the European Commission. The amendment, which was proposed by the EC to reject completely, did not find support in the session hall. The authors of the amendment were several deputies from the group "Europe of Nations and Freedoms", headed by the French ultra-right politician Marin Le Pen.
Earlier, the compromise reached within the framework of the negotiations was supported by the relevant committee of the EP and the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU member states.
The decision has yet to be approved by the EU Council.
As reported, according to the agreements, quotas for tomatoes, wheat, corn and honey will be increased, but not to the extent that was previously proposed by the European Commission, and urea from the proposals is excluded.
In particular, the following annual quotas are established:.
Preferences will be introduced for up to three years as an addition to the free trade agreement.
In Ukraine, it is expected that additional trade preferences may enter into force in autumn. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the economic effect of the European Parliament's decision to increase the annual quotas for duty-free import of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU will be about $ 196.95 million.
