Experts explained why in Odessa during June cold water in the sea and told when it warms up.

Vice-rector for scientific work of Odessa State Ecological University, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Yury Tuchkovenko named several reasons for lowering the temperature of sea water.

"One of them is the adjoining of the Odessa basin, where the depth is more than 20 meters close enough from the shore. At a depth below 10 meters there is a layer of temperature jump, at the bottom there is a temperature of about 8-9 degrees at this time and when strong winds are blowing from the shore, recent warm water is dispersed from the shore and cold water takes its place , Which comes from great depths. This is called coastal upwelling. It happens in summer during the heat after strong winds. Now stronger winds, thunderstorms and this could also keep the sea warming up, "he said..

Head of the Department of Water Quality, Odessa branch of the Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas NAS of Ukraine Sergey Dyatlov spoke about such a phenomenon as a wind.

"This is when the wind blows towards the sea, which causes the cooling of seawater. When the direction of the wind changes, the water will warm up. It's amazing that this is happening now, since this phenomenon is typical for Odessa in July, "he said..

It should be noted that both specialists stressed that the summer came late, in June there was quite cool weather, which also affected the temperature of the sea water.

According to experts, as soon as strong winds stop and stable hot weather begins, the upper layer of water will warm up quickly enough and the temperature of sea water should reach 20 degrees. This may happen within a week.

We add that according to the data of the Hydrometeorological Center of the Black and Azov Seas, the temperature of the sea water was 13 degrees on June 26, the temperature of the sea water will rise to 14-15 degrees on 27 June.
