The painting, which was considered a copy in the Museum of Western and Eastern Art for 80 years, turned out to be the original of the 17th century.
This was reported to the correspondent of the Ukrainian Information Service in the press center of the Odessa Museum of Western and Oriental Art.
The original was the painting "The Slepts" by Peter Brueghel the Elder, representative of the Golden Age of the Dutch school of the 17th century.
The canvas was in the Museum of Western and Eastern Art since 1934.
It was believed that the "Slepts" - is a copy of the famous painting of his father, written by Peter Brueghel the Younger.
However, carried out a complex restoration and in-depth study proved that the painting is an authentic masterpiece. The establishment of the truth was done by Irina Glebova, Olga Kutsan and Zhanna Borovskaya.
Let's note, the canvas "Slepts" got to the Odessa museum from the prerevolutionary collection of Princess Nadezhda Svyatopolk-Mirskaya.
