As a result of interinstitutional negotiations on granting trade preferences to Ukraine, the member countries of the European Union reached a compromise, according to which quotas for tomatoes, wheat, maize and honey will be cut, urea from the proposals will be excluded.
This result of the tripartite talks, held late Tuesday in Strasbourg, was reported in the European Parliament, UNIAN reports..
"After heated discussions, a strong compromise was reached, which all three institutions agreed (the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Maltese presidency). It provides for granting Ukraine preferences for all agricultural products proposed by the European Commission, with five of them partially restored, and urea removed from the industrial complex, "the message says..
In particular, the following annual quotas are established: for honey - 2500 tons, processed tomatoes - 3000 tons, wheat - 65000 tons, maize - 625,000 tons, barley - 325,000 tons.

In addition, the agreed text focuses on combating corruption, which is one of the conditions for the allocation of trade preferences to Ukraine.
Goods that are exported from territories seized by separatists will be subject to additional inspections.
The European Commission was obliged to report in more detail on the implementation of these preferences.
"The decision taken yesterday provides support for trade with Ukraine while protecting vulnerable interests for EU farmers and industry," commented the rapporteur from the EP Jaroslav Vales, the results of the negotiations.
Preferences will be introduced for up to three years, as a supplement to the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.
