By 2020, Ukraine will lead the security and defense sectors to NATO standards, and then in the near future can become a member of the Alliance. This was said by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin on the air of "Breakfast with 1 + 1", reports UNN.

The minister recalled that at the Warsaw summit an agreement was reached that first Ukraine should lead the security and defense sectors to the standards of the Alliance.

"We committed ourselves to. Do this until 2020. In fact, the task is very ambitious. If you look at how the new NATO member countries did this, it lasted much longer.

But we will do it, and then we will look how to move forward, "he said..

Answering a question about when Ukraine will join NATO, P. Klimkin replied: "I think that this will happen sooner than many people generally dream and hope. I think that these three years, if we use it with meaning, then we will have a chance in the near future ".

Recall, on June 8, the Verkhovna Rada legislatively consolidated the course of Ukraine for membership in NATO.
