Vyatrovich believes that such a step will not offend veterans, but will help in educating youth.

Director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Vladimir Vyatrovich in the column for the publication "Apostrophe" said the need to do on May 9, when celebrated the Day of Victory over Nazism in World War II, the workers.

The weekend, in his opinion, should be postponed to May 8 - Day of Memory and Reconciliation.

Vyatrovich explained that this initiative does not cancel the holiday, nor does it aim to offend veterans, "for most of which the day off does not have as much significance as for the younger generation, people who work".

"We must understand the need to reformat old Soviet holidays, public elements of celebration, which is already in progress in Ukraine. We quickly got rid of the Soviet and Russian symbols in the form of St. George's ribbon, and the red poppy has already become a familiar symbol. On May 8, Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, "said the director of the Institute.

He added that the ultimate goal is to "educate the younger generation, those people who will build the future of Ukraine".

"I hope that next year will be the opportunity to postpone the day off from 9 to 8 May," - said Vyatrovich.

Recall, April 9, 2015, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine established May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation in honor of all victims of World War II.

The law was adopted in accordance with the UN Recommendation of 2004, proclaimed May 8 and 9 as Days of Remembrance and Reconciliation and invited the UN member states, except for the celebration of their Days of Victory or Liberation, to celebrate one or two days each year as a tribute to the memory of all victims of World War II War.

Thus, Ukraine joined the pan-European tradition. The symbol of Day of Reconciliation and Victory Day in Ukraine was the red poppy. It is an international symbol of the memory of the victims of all military and civil armed conflicts.
