In Kharkov on the basis of the military faculty of the National Technical University "KhPI" it is planned to reopen the military institute of tank troops.

The plans for the opening of the institute for the training of tank officers were stated by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak, having visited KPI, where the military faculty is working, which trains both tankers and chemical officers.

"I will initiate work on the preparation of the relevant government resolution on the establishment of a military institute on the basis of the faculty, where future officers of tank units will be trained," Poltorak said on his Facebook page.

The faculty of military training of the National Technical University "Kharkov Polytechnic Institute" was founded in 1944 as the Guards Kharkov Tank School, in which tank officers were trained.

In 1966 it was transformed into a higher military educational institution with a 4-year term of study and a diploma of higher engineering education. In order to improve the training of officers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine on September 19, 1997, the tank school was reorganized into the Kharkov Institute of Tank Troops. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

On the order of the Ministers of Defense and Education of Ukraine on August 4, 1999, the institute became an integral part of the "KhPI".
