Over the past three years since the occupation of Crimea, the number of students who study in Ukrainian schools has decreased 36 times. At the same time, only 3.2% of Ukrainians have the opportunity to study in their native language, according to a report of the Crimean Human Rights Group published on the website of the Ombudsman.

In 2013 in the Crimea, 13589 pupils received education in the Ukrainian language, whereas in 2016 there were only 371. At the same time, such a large number of Ukrainian classes is incommensurable with the number of ethnic Ukrainian population, which in Crimea is home to 15%.

The report shows the ratio of the proportion of the population in the ethnic structure of the population and the share of educational institutions in the language of this group. Thus, it is calculated how much a particular group is provided with education in the native language. Only 3,2% of Ukrainians have the opportunity to study in their native language, among the Tatars this amount is 25.5%. The only group that is fully provided with education in their native language is the Russians, who by 137.4% are provided with instruction in their own language, which means a significant excess of this language in the structure of education on the peninsula.

Recall that the International Court of Justice in The Hague agreed to the introduction of temporary measures in the case "Ukraine vs. Russia" in the issue of discrimination of national minorities in the Crimea. Among other things, the court ordered Russia to resume the Mejlis and refrain from restrictions on the representation of Crimean Tatars. Also among the requirements is the resumption of education in the Crimea in Ukrainian. In addition, the court asked both sides to refrain from any form of racial discrimination.
