The new dam on the North-Crimean canal blocked water in the occupied Crimea. A stationary concrete dam was built on the border of the mainland of Ukraine with the occupied peninsula, the TSN. The saved water from the Kakhovka water reservoir should irrigate the lands of the south of Kherson region. If the canal was blocked several dozen kilometers to the administrative border, where there is the last stationary dam, the farms south would be threatened by drought. Therefore, water was allowed under less pressure, and farmers themselves built a dam out of sandbags. Now it is not a temporary solution, but a full solution of the problem, which will allow to grow rice and wheat. "Now we have confidence in the future," - explained the farmer Yuri Dudchenko. The dam was built for a year and was spent on it 35 million UAH. The construction reliably cuts off the canal's flow, without letting water into the occupied territory.
Experts say that work on the development of the new dam will continue. "The first stage is completed. The continuation is the creation of an infrastructure. Winches, duty rooms, security, "- explained the chief engineer of the North-Crimean channel Vladimir Ohopku. The new dam has a damper, which at any time can be opened. Therefore, when the Crimea returns to Ukraine, 300 kilometers of the North-Crimean Canal will be filled with water.
