Commission of the Kiev City Council has agreed a draft decision on a ban on the catch of stray cats in Kiev, according to the website of the Kyiv City Council.

The document prohibits the catch of stray cats in the territory of Kiev, with the exception of catch for the purpose of sterilization, vaccination and / or to adapt to new owners. Representatives of public animal protection organizations must be involved in this process.

Communal structures, including HBC, AJOAH, and other structures that ensure compliance with standards and requirements for the operation of cellars, technical cellars and attics, should prevent the isolation of cats there, which can lead to their death.

"The decision is absolutely correct, we supported it with the amendment: to grant the right of AJOAH and HBC to decide whether to allow or not allow cats to live in the cellars of their homes. I want to emphasize that there are collective housing bodies that must make decisions, but we must not allow the killing of cats, we must not allow bullying.

This can all be solved by civilized methods, "said Vladimir Bondarenko, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Housing and Utilities..

Utilities are obliged not to create deliberate interference to the cats' function of natural deratization.

The document should also be considered at the plenary meeting of the Kyiv City Council.

Earlier, the Commission on housing and communal services of the Kyiv City Council supported the petition for the recognition of cats as part of the ecosystem of Kiev.
