First World Memory Day of the Chernobyl Explosion "is intended to serve as a reminder of the victims of the disaster, the danger of nuclear accidents and the need to strengthen international cooperation to mitigate the long-term consequences of the Chernobyl disaster," the UN News Center.

On April 26, 1986, at the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, an explosion occurred that caused one of the most large-scale man-made disasters in world history.
The employees of the station were the first to eliminate the consequences of the accident.
