The Ukrainian delegation urged the members of the UN Security Council, when considering the situation in the occupied Crimea and the Donbass Basin, to pay special attention to the observance of human rights on territories temporarily controlled by the aggressor, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Sergei Kislitsa, made a corresponding statement on Tuesday at a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York..

"The occupation authorities commit massive and systematic violations of human rights and seek to destroy the identity of Ukrainians and indigenous inhabitants of the peninsula - the Crimean Tatars, as well as other ethnic and religious groups," emphasized Kislitsa.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine recalled how the UN General Assembly in its resolution 71/205 on human rights in the Crimea and Sevastopol confirmed that "Crimean residents should enjoy protection in accordance with the Geneva Conventions and existing human rights treaties". He drew attention to the fact that the UN Observer Mission repeatedly recorded the crimes committed during the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

"Disrespect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law by authoritarian regimes towards their citizens includes, among other things, attempts to escape punishment during internal civil wars, as in Syria, or to avoid responsibility for attempts to unlawfully annex foreign territories, such as Made Russia with the Crimea, as well as during its military aggression in the Donbass, "- said the deputy head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

He stressed that the right approach in monitoring the violations of human rights can help prevent an armed conflict.

And if such a conflict has already occurred, the observance of human rights can prevent further escalation of violence and serve as a deterrent to atrocities against civilians.

International Court of Justice to announce its interim decision tomorrow in Ukraine v. Russia. The court will decide whether it is necessary to take temporary preventive measures against Russia, in a Ukrainian lawsuit on committing acts of terrorism and discrimination by the Russian Federation.
