The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Yuri Klimenko, stressed the need for UN intervention and ensuring the free access of humanitarian organizations to the annexed Crimea, UNN was informed by the press service of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

Klimenko focused on this during a dialogue with the Special Rapporteurs on the promotion of truth, justice and on freedom of religion or belief at the 34th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

"I mean that the permanent presence of international organizations, including monitoring through UN mechanisms on the peninsula, will help compel the occupation authorities to adhere to their obligations under international law," he said..

The ambassador also supported the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, Ahmed Shahid, who believes that special procedures for the protection of human rights are most effective when acting as a cohesive system.

"We urge you to seek ways and means to provide access to the Crimea - individual or collective - in order to assess the situation there," Klimenko said..
