China first showed its unmanned tanks on state television, writes the Chinese edition of Global Times. It is a question of modernized and equipped with artificial intelligence tanks type 59, created on the basis of the Soviet T-54 and issued from the fifties to the eighties.

According to the military, China has produced a sufficient number of tanks for such modernization, and they are still in good technical condition. However, as the Global Times points out, "Until the moment when unmanned tanks can be compared to combat power with classic models, there are many technical problems to solve".

In March 2017, China approved the highest military budget in the history of the country. It amounted to 142 billion euros. At the same time, an increase in defense spending by seven percent is the lowest in the last twenty years.

Modernization of the armed forces assumes a reduction in the number of servicemen by 300,000. Despite this, the PLA remains the world's largest army with about two million people.

According to a study recently presented by the Berlin institute MERICS, which studies China's modern policy, the PLA is ready for action far beyond the borders of the country. For decades, Beijing has proclaimed a policy of non-alignment. Now, the authors of the study note, China intends to actively participate in the creation of a world security system.

Earlier, the European Aircraft Building Concern Airbus showed a video recording of the first aerial taxi flight developed under the Vahana project.
