The hacker group Fancy Bears, which is associated with Russia, was suspected of preparing a series of hacker attacks on the sites of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the US Anti-Doping Agency USADA and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCASIA). The corresponding conclusions were made by the American cyber security company Threat Connect by finding domains that mimic the above mentioned sites. However, Threat Connect does not claim that these domains were used with malicious intent or are definitely associated with the Fancy Bears grouping. Experts make their conclusions on indirect grounds - similar methods were used by hackers in 2016 when they managed to gain access to WADA confidential information about American athletes.

Earlier, the Fancy Bears group published the supporting documents and correspondence of the top management of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and WADA, which stated that the goal of the McLaren Commission was to remove Russians from participating in the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and Pyeongchang, discrediting the IOC and the entire Olympic movement , as well as the struggle for power and money in world sports. WADA in response called Fancy Bears "a criminal organization". Recall, the International Olympic Committee Dec. 5 decided not to allow Russia to the Olympics in Pyeongchang in 2018.
